No matter how you are celebrating Valentine’s Day this week, be sure to factor your oral health into your plans.
The American Dental Association offers the following tips for maintaining your pearly whites during this sweet time of year:
#1 Keep your cavities to yourself.
You guessed it—cavities can be contagious. That’s right: Cavities can be spread by sharing bacteria.
So, when you kiss your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day, if you have a cavity, you may want to think twice. Or, keep the cavities away brushing and flossing twice each day.
#2 Brush away bad breath.
Regular brushing and flossing will help keep bad breath at bay, in addition to the many other benefits of regular brushing and flossing.
Keeping a stash of sugar-free gum or mints on hand may also come in handy after your Valentine’s Day dinner date.
#3 Don’t go overboard on the sugar.
Between the candy hearts, lollipops, and chocolates, there sure is no shortage of sweet treats to indulge in on and around February 14th. As challenging as it might be, try to moderate your sugar intake. Your teeth will thank you.
