Want A Brighter Smile? Talk To The Professionals

There are many products and methods out there that advertise teeth whitening. Yet, professional teeth whitening is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

While a multitude of over-the-counter teeth whitening products exist, these tend to be less effective and not all of the products may be approved by the American Dental Association. On the other hand, professional teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel. Darkening and yellowing of teeth occurs naturally with age. As we age, the outer layer of tooth enamel wears away, eventually revealing a darker or yellow shade. This coloring not only occurs on the outside of our teeth, but also on the inside.

Other reasons for dull, discolored teeth? Smoking, drinking coffee, tea, and wine may also contribute to tooth discoloration. In addition, teeth can become discolored as a result of taking certain medications as a child, such as tetracycline. Also, excessive fluoridation during tooth development can also cause teeth to become discolored.

Before providing this professional brightening treatment, your dentist will evaluate your teeth to determine if you’re a good candidate for bleaching. For example, occasionally, tetracycline and fluorosis stains are difficult to bleach and your dentist may offer other options, such as veneers or crowns to cover up such stains. While teeth whitening is not permanent and will likely require touch-ups every several years, this method is safe and effective.
